Tips and Tricks

Where tip # 1? No one ever said I had to go in order...  :)

#3 If you get a fruit based stain, put the item over the sink with the stain in a single layer stain side down. If you got the stain in multiple spots or through many layers, you’ll have to work each one individually. Pour boiling water through the stain. It totally works. Crazy, but true.

#17 Spray a grease stain on clothing with WD-40 and then launder as usual. It gets the stain out!! I know, it makes no sense, but it works!

#18  Gummy situation. To get chewing gum off of clothes:

  • Make sure the clothing is machine washable (If it's not, take it to the dry cleaner).
  • Douse the area with a little olive oil. Use a dish scrubby or a clean toothbrush and brush the gum going with the grain of the fabric.
  • Spray area with WD-40 and launder as usual. The WD-40 will get out the olive oil grease spot. (Counter intuitive, but true...)
#21 Irksome carpet stains
Have a carpet stain you can't get out? Try rubbing alcohol. Saturate the area with rubbing alcohol and then rub with a white towel. The stain will seem to just disappear! Don't forget to spot test the alcohol on a hidden carpet area first!!

#25 This is gross, but true. If you get blood on your clothes and are not near your house to pre-treat, spit on it! It only works the blood and spit are from the same person. It won’t get the stain out right away, but it makes it way easier to get out later!

#26 Can’t get blood out of clothing or furniture? Try Hydrogen peroxide. Make sure to do a colorfast test first!

#47 This one is from my friend Kelly- Miracle grout clenaer: Put 1 cup of water into a spray bottle. Fill the rest with water. Use. :)

#58  Tough bathroom grime got you down? Cut a lemon in half sprinkle salt and scrub away! Works better than most spray cleaners.

#126 Mix 1/2 cup of salt and 1 cup of baking soda Pour in your drain followed by a teakettle of boiling water.

#228 Boil ½ vinegar with ½ water in your tea kettle to remove hard water build-up.

#341 Rice cereal, oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits. What do these all have in common? They are tasty breakfasts AND they are apparently made of Super Glue when they dry. To get the bowl unsticky, simply fill 3/4 with water and microwave for 1.5 mins. The hot water loosens the glued on mess and you don't have to wait for it to soak!!
